the last week before the first running event

well, maybe I did a few bike marathons, but this year the Vienna City Marathon(half distance) will be my first running thing ever.
I'll look forward only to survbive, nothing else.
After all, it will be, that this event and only one more in Vienna, the Kraftwerktropy, a 12hour bike race will be the only sporty things I'll do this year.
I also can say that I will take another challenge. I'll try to hit a little ball.
Oh my dear, what I am doing? ;-)

Ok, I could close this blog, but I hink, I will use it to tell about other stories about riding bicycles. To ride with freinds is always so much fun, even more than racing.

just in a lack of competition, I'm looking for new challenges. Due to the circumstances, that my dearling is so far away now. I don't want to put something new on my trainingplan, but I want to bring some new aspects in my training.
Not the regular winter training, just a little more strength-training and to look more after the skiing program.
In the moment I do not think about, if it would snow this winter or not.

Well, the 24hour race is just one week ago and I had really "restfully" days.
today I had a mountainbike ride with a few friends, the weather was fine, the shadow in the forest was pleasantly.
Now I enjoy sorting and watching the photos.

I got a home race!

Now it happened, I got a 24 hour bikerace right in front of my door. So I decided, to go for the solo part. The weather played a liitle bit nasty, befor start. But then it went better and it stayed dry and not too hot.
In the following hours I cannot really say, that I had any bigger problems. My legs where working, no cramps appeared. My stomach did his job and processed the food I offered him, even if it was sometimes a little bit like that what pregnant ladies eat.
In the middle of the night, at about 2:00 I simply was too tired to ride on. So I took a little break.
But after it my accu quitted and the light turned off. The lucky side is, that most of the track was lightened and so Icould go on with my small backup-lamp.
The last hours where sometimes so boring, that I just wanted to stop, sit down on a bench, just to watch the countryside.
In the last few laps I felt, that the continuous pedaling and the dirt did its work and left a sore place on my left inner leg. It was not hurting bad, but constantly.
As the racce came to its end, more and more people came to the event and mood rose.
But in the End I definitly was happy that it didn't last any longer.

Snow In Summer

Yes, it's not a joke! On Saturday, at 9:00 we startet to the 114km long Moutainbike-Marathon at the Salzkammerguttrophy in Bad Goisern, Autria. It was cold and raining. But as we reached the first Summit, at about 1400m, the rain changed to snow and it it was freaking cold. my instruments said 3°C!!! brrrrr!
In the folloiwing downhill section I could not feel my fingers, the rain and ice nailed on my legs and I culd not wait, to climb uphill again, just to get warm again.
Some of the trails were only wild water creeks and we followed them down the mountains.
Many of the competitors surrendered. Even the shorter Distance, because the started at 11:00, just, when the heavy rain began.
At this moment, we just finished the fist big uphill and dit not even think about giving up.
At about 3/4 of the distance, the race was shortened, due to heavy snow falls on the mountains (about 20cm / 8").

A simply muddy race.

24hours of Grieskirchen

we came to Grieskirchen for a 24hour race as a mixed double team. But the whole thing went different.
Our original plan were to go for two 12hour turns as a Test for our 24hour solo events. So my teammate Vika decided to take the first part, but she felt not really good this day, headache and dizziness.
OK, we decided, that I should go for the first 4 hours and she would take the next full 12 hours.
3 hours after the start a severe rain began and I took a little stop to put on my rain suite and take little snack. At this time, she offered me that she was still not feeling better and I will have to go for a solo. Well, so I slowed down and prepared to go for a solo ride. The rain was not really funny. It was cold, about 9-11°C and the speed of the teamriders was high, to high, to go with them.
After a few hours in the rain I decided to take a little timeout, put on dry clothes and warm up again.
As the rain ended, it was night now, I got back on the bike. It was not so cold as I thought, but the fog was terrible. I've got a superb light, but the fog fell down on my glasses and I were not able to see 100%. This was not the main problem. My stomach was on strike. The masses of isotonic drinks, gels and other carbohydratic food demanded it's tribute.
Because of this I had to slow down and so I had had to put on a few more clothes and ride on or to take another timeout not to risk a collaps. At this time I had nearly 300kms on my account so I went for another break and took a little sleep.
In the morning I put on a dry dress and in the last hours I rode the last 100kms. My legs were empty and as a cause of the wet ride the day before, I had a few nearly wounded parts.
In the end, we finished at second last, with 408kms and 3280ms, a complete bathtub full of wet bike clothing, two empty camera accus and not just a smile on the face.

Today I had a little bit time, because I didn't ride any bicycle. The reasin is 24hour race this weekend. No solo, but a mixed double-team.
So I used the light and the warming sun, to take a few photos in my garden.

It was the first time, I used my garmin to save data over 12h at the Kraftwerktrophy in Vienna. A nice gadget is, thät it can record the laps itself, by gps-position.
In the first section you can see, that the speed was very constant and the lap-times nearly equal. Later, as I got cramps and recovered again, the speed also went up and down.

Yesterday I finished my first 12hour-event. It was a fantastic arrangement.
To go for a 12h race is for the first time a little difficult to say how fast you can go over the whole distance. especially the solo-riders have to look for a peloton to ride with.
The fist 5h where as planned, but then I got a problem. My legs began to cramp and I had to take little timeout. In the next few hours I came back to my performance and the cramps where blown away.
The last few hours of the race where really hard, not because of my constitution, but it was a psychological thing, that you can no longer wait to finish! The last laps, as the sun set and it became a little bit cooler, the wind was gone and I pushed for the last laps.
In the end, I finished with 358kms.

I just cannot imagine, how one single man can get nearly 500km in 12h!

Yesterday I was said, that a good friend of mine had a severe accident with his bike. On a straight road, where his speed was about 47km/h a 75 year old car-driver took his priority and a crash was inevitable.
His helmet, gloves and his complete suit was destroyed and also the bike.

I hope, he's getting well soon.

The First Competition - This Year

Today I went for the CityBikeMarathon in Munich. It was a test for my personal shape.
I decided to go for the long distance, it was 87km (54.4mls; the short one 65kms-40.6mls).
The goal was to catch the speed of last year, it was 25,5km/h (15.94mph) and I got it, by over 28km/h(17.5mph) also over the longer distance.

I'm looking forward what this season will bring.

the brevet yesterday was a really good training under some competitive aspects. The weather also was fine, dry and not too cold, only a little bit fresh in the morning.
But maybe I've got to do a little bit more for my uphill-performance.

This morning I awaked by the rain on my window and I don't feel so really good now.
Today I am a little bit like getting a cold. Let's hope that it will be gone till saturday.
Sometimes it's better to stay in bed an wait for better times.

Today I only went for a short ride, only rolling, no sprints, no hard uphills - only to let the legs move a little bit. I really cannot wait until Saturday. The weatherforecast says it will be warm and 200km (125mls) are a good training in my state now.

This is the last week before the first 200km-Brevet in Linz/Austria it is something like a race but without time-control.

I'm totally fed up with sitting in the house while the rain falls and falls down. In summer it's no problem when you are getting wet but now it is still too cold. Next week, if the forecast is right, the spring will come and I still can't hold back now.

today i did the first basic ride for about 120km. it was so far easy going but the wind was sometimes really strong and cold. Especially in the end.
It was the first longer ride with my new bike, a Trek Madone, and I enjoyed it very much.
Some things in the setup I cannot really go on with, I have got to change. So the saddle seems to be a little bit to soft for me, I prefer race-saddles.

Finally it seems that the winter has already gone. The training sessions on the ergometer are reaching 6 hours. I hope the days will come soon to get out and make the streets unsafe! :D

Now I'm about to change this blog into the international version. I think it's time to write in english because most of the blogs I follow are written in this language.

Now, most of the races this year are fixed and the training has nearly reached it's first climax.
The weather outside is still not fine and it's a hard time to spend a lot of time on the ergobike.
As it were colder, I took my crosscountry skies and went out but now it is what we call
"not fish and not meat"
Let's hope, it's getting better.

Mein "anderes" Hobby

... ist eigentlich schon lange die Fotografie. Am liebsten fotografiere ich eigentlich Natur, Tiere, Kinder - hier vor allem meine Nichte - aber auch Sportveranstaltungen.

Zum einen bin ich natürlich meist aufgrund meiner Teilnahme selbst bei verschiedenen Radveranstaltungen vertreten, fotografiere dann logischerweise aber nicht. Andererseits bin ich dadurch, dass ich nicht mehr aktiv Motorsport betreibe vor allem bei unseren Heimveranstaltungen dabei und muss nicht mitfahren. Was mir natürlich die Gelegenheit gibt, mal wieder den Auslöser zubetätigen.

Ein Teilgebiet, mit dem ich mich jetzt auch weider genauer beschäftige, ist die Macrofotografie. Hierbei finde ich am interessantesten, dass manche, in der Regel banale Dinge aus dieser Perspektive plötzlich eine ganz neue Bedeutung bekommen.

"Wie lange dauerts denn noch?" könnte man fragen, "bis es wieder losgeht und die ersten Marathons auf dem Terminplan stehn". Naja, die ersten stehn eh schon drauf, aber ein bischen ist es ja noch hin, bis 2009. Der Winter hat ja auch noch nicht so richtig angefangen. Dann könnte man sich ja die Zeit mit Langlaufen und anderen Wintersportgeschichten vertreiben.

Womit wir weider bei unserer Anfangsfrage stehn.

"Wie lange dauerts denn noch, bis der Winter anfängt?"
